Interconnection 2007 debates the “next generation”

i-conX CEO MARTIN BROWNE was invited to address the IIR conference “Interconnection 2007”, held at the Hilton Westend Budapest, Jan 26th 2007.

The 3-day conference is an annual event which brings together interconnect experts from around the world, to debate current and future trends in the industry.

Balancing regulatory and commercial perspectives, this year the conference addressed issues vital to the future of the sector including IP, NGN, mobile and converged business and charging strategies/models.

Martin’s presentation delivered an intriguing glimpse into the future, comparing and contrasting the effectiveness of different charging/costing models across both traditional and next generation environments.

“I wanted to take a long hard look at the various models available, and how they might work, but perhaps more crucially, what the impacts are likely to be for a telecom business”, explained Martin.

“Whilst the fundamental principles of interconnect traffic are unlikely to change, the various ‘levels’ of content bring new implications for charging and costing”, he continued.

“For instance, under proposed models, image is five times more valuable than text, and video twice as valuable as image”.

The conference attracted delegates from Eastern and Western Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and was i-conX’s first sponsored event from its busy 2007 programme.
